These reports bear all the hallmarks of being a scam; it’s when your system locks up and an unremovable message demanding money appears on your screen that you have a problem. As for passwords, I have an open-source free of the internet password manager. I have it installed on a flash-drive, which itself is password protected and that’s the only password I know; all twenty characters off by heart!
