Thing is, strangely enough, WD will incorporate another AV as the primary, and run scans on it, periodically, to "check" it. The craziest thing I have ever heard of. A real "Microsoft moment"!
If you added another third party AV on your Windows 10 system then it would automatically disable WD therefore then you would only have one main AV otherwise they would conflict.
You are talking about using 'Limited Periodic Scanning in Windows Defender.' This is not the same as having 2 AVs but think of it more as adding another malware program to your system that you can scan now and again.
