Hi Reg, I only input the first command as this was my result:
C:\Windows\system32>netsh interface tcp show global
The following command was not found: interface tcp show global?.

Not sure if I should put in the 2nd command if the first fails.

Saltgrass I tried Mozzila, chrome, edge and explorer. I am downloading to the normal place not a external device. Task manger displays no irregularities and is displaying the speeds I am getting as the amount used by the browsers in the resource manager.

It helps to have all information but, the critical three key bits of data for me are:
  • From the first command, what is the status of "Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level"?
  • From the second command, what is the status of "Windows Scaling Heuristics"?
  • Also from second command, what is the status of "Profile Type Public"?

Hi Konerned,

I'm going to be a little busy today, so to avoid delay to any response you may make to my previous post here is a further instruction should the following scenario pop up.

If and ONLY IF after following earlier instructions you see these results
  • Receive Window Auto-Tune Level = Normal
  • Windows Scaling Heuristics = Normal or Restricted
  • Profile Type Public = Normal

  • Press Winkey + X
  • Press A or with mouse select Command Prompt (Admin)
  • In the Administrator: Command Prompt console type or Copy & Paste the following command:
netsh interface tcp set heuristics disabled
  • Choose OK
  • Type Exit | then press Enter key to close Administrator: Command Prompt console
  • Restart computer

The only other thing I can think of is what you are downloading. Could you provide an example, even if from another site, of what type of media/data you are having the problem with?

Task manager shows the bandwidth usage of your system. What a browser is using may be relevant but may not be the complete story.

Hi Konerned,

I'm surprised this command did not work for you as this is a standard built in feature of Windows.

However, you could retrieve the same results using a slightly different command:
  • Press Winkey + X | then press A or with mouse select Command Prompt (Admin)
  • In the console type netsh int tcp show global | then press Enter key

The second command can also be modified as follows:

Type netsh int tcp show heuristics | then press Enter key

Should it be needed the set command can also be modified like so:

Type netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled | then press Enter key | OK

Hi Konerned,

Well for the Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level you want it set as Normal. So that is good.

Are you saying the alternate second command: netsh net tcp show heuristics also did not work for you?

My seems I didnt see that one.

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.10586]
(c) 2015 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\system32>netsh int tcp show heuristics
TCP Window Scaling heuristics Parameters
----------------------------------------------
Window Scaling heuristics : disabled
Qualifying Destination Threshold : 3
Profile type unknown : normal
Profile type public : normal
Profile type private : normal
Profile type domain : normal

Scaling is disabled and you said iff normal/restricted so well I will not try that 3rd command.

OK,

Those settings are optimum. So yes do not bother with the 3rd command.

Thus something else is interfering with the download traffic.

I'll have to put the thinking cap on

At least though we've eliminated a third party application adjusting those critical settings.

This information may help others who plan to contribute to this also.

Hi Reged

I spent about 2 hours calling my isp and adsl line provider after this thread hit a dead end. I had my port at the main area exchanged swapped and this seems to have fixed my issue. It appears my old port was simply faulty.

Thank you everyone for trying to help me.
