This is WAYYYYY too complicated and will not sell to anyone who wants a PC in their home for everyday use (probably why PC sales are down - it is becoming less of an appliance for use in the home and more strictly a geek thing)... oh well.

Persist, John.

It is the same way that has been used to bypass the login since Windows xp

Evidently I have had 7 for so long that I forgot that somebody removed the log-in for me... I have NEVER logged into any computer I have had at home. It is perfectly understandable to have such a feature, especially in the workplace. And I guess more computers are sold there than for home use.... But still, it should be something you turn ON at first boot up upon installation. Not something you have to take your computer to a specialist to fix and turn off. Makes this whole process about as much fun as traveling these days.....

Sorry. Pardon me for disagreeing.

Switching to local account minimizes the use of Windows 10 features. That is a compromise, at best.
I couldn't find any other way to eliminate the password. Following the prompts on netplwiz didn't fix the problem until I went to local account. What features have I lost?

I closed my Microsoft account and now do not need a password to log in, it just starts up with no user selection required either. Of course I can no longer purchase apps, even free ones but I have the few I need so that is fine by me. I do not see the cool screen with clock now prior to logging on but I am able to have the new blue screen on the desktop with a gadget clock in the corner.

  • First of all go to Run by simply pressing Windows + R button.
  • Now a window will appear in front of you in search bar type netplwiz and hit enter.
  • A new user account window will appear where you have to make some changes as per requirements. Here Uncheck the statement Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.
  • After all this simply restart your pc and it won’t ask you to login Windows Live Account.

Just select your ".cox.net" account
uncheck the box that says "Users must enter a password....... "
Click OK and you'll get a box where you enter that password twice.
Click OK and you should be good to go, when you restart the computer

Do not remove your credentials

If you are getting the login prompt and the box
that says "Users must enter a password....... " is unchecked, then you should check the box and then uncheck it so that you get the box that requires you to enter that password twice.
Then you can click OK and you should be good to go, when you restart the computer

I've tried this procedure correctly many times. However in spite of this still get asked to login most of the time. Sometimes, about 20%, when my Surface Pro wakes it'll be OK. 80% still have to login.

I'm not an idiot and have worked on this for a month.... followed threads on 4 forums, seen a large number of people with the same problem.... so there is a genuine problem not fixed by the netplwiz "solution".

Here's a question that I haven't seen addressed: When I used the netplwiz option on Win 8.1, I got the impression that it was still logging in by entering the password automatically instead of me manually typing it. That made me nervous because I did have to change my password once and didn't want my PC to be entering the wrong password and lock me out. I went back to entering the password. Does this solution to Win 10 enter passwords automatically or actually eliminate the password requirement completely?

I think I read somewhere that when apply is clicked and enter and confirm password appears two entries are made in registry to store password rather than bypass it. I have seen very brief flashes of a password entry window with dots in it during boot sequence. This makes me believe the password is indeed stored,

If password is changed I would run netplwiz just to be sure.

This works fine on start up but doesn't work for multiple user accounts you still have to use passwords to switch between a/c's which I find even more of a pain when switching between my a/c and my wives,( we have no secrets, honest)

I am like Chriscmt. I am getting frustrated with password when switching between accounts. The startup doesn't really matter to me since I both my wife and I have our own separate user account. we both know the password for the startup. I started out without the password then 2 days ago I setup Cortana and it connected that to my user account. now the damn password requirement is only for my account, not my wife's. Is there a fix for between user accounts?

I dont like the GUI that win 10 and previous versions like win 8 and 8.1 use. it seems like microsft forces us to use them. I like the classic GUI where i can use my regular desktop instead of a bunch of gigantic icons that lead to places I never go anyways. I can not even figure out how to add clicky buttons to the newer GUI. Places like control panel, and other settings are hard to find. But then again.. I have spent a limited time using that newer GUI. My wife is constantly asking me how to do this and how to do that with win 10 and the only way I can help her is to mingle with that GUI. I hate it. Of all the OS that microshft has bestowed upon us... I seem to like win7 (for new generation of OS) or win 2k. it seems to me that not very many people like the newer GUI. but I am old. Younger people may like it or benefit from it. They should leave an option to revert back to a more familiar GUI.

Hey, not to worry. this forum can help solve almost any problem and you will grow to love this GUI. For example, right click on the start symbol and you will see a list of very helpful options to speed things up for you. Also, those "gigantic icons" are easily removed with a right click and then selecting "unpin from start". In fact, you can modify the start in other ways. O yea, and you can easily add or remove "clicky buttons" to the task bar by right clicking and pinning it. If it does not appear then simply right click the "task view" symbol on the task bar and select "show app icons" . If you have any problem at all, do a simple search (upper right). If you do not find a solution there, just start a new thread and help will be on the way and usually very quickly. Have patience my friend.
