This is plot thickens, I didn't mean to cause a disruption, just give folks a heads up
Dave is right, if I scroll down the page and click on "No Thanks" I get 3 options. The free option on my page shows only one download link, Download.com, not File Hippo. I've always trusted File Hippo for delivering what's expected, I certainly won't trust Download.com (cnet)
I'll continue using the link I posted until the mess is resolved?

Dave I agree, never seen anything close to this. It's crazy, we are all running the same OS, practically the same browsers and we have nothing more than a box of cheap chocolates. Can't believe the chaos.

It has been a few years now, but I sent either Piriform or MiniTool a nasty message. I'm thinking it was Minitool. I was not happy with them for sending me to Cnet, while trying to download from them. I'm not ashamed about it and would do it again. Sending people to a malware/adware infested download location is not cool.

I've been angry with cnet for years, they caught me once back in the early XP day's.
They are notorious for using users as a dumping ground and pushing unwanted software. They must make a fortune from it. Like Avast, many are very difficult to get rid of, it's not a simple "Uninstall"

As Avast disabled Mambam, it makes me wonder if MS is behind the plot? Maybe MS doesn't like Malwarebytes competition?

I've held a similar question about antivirus programs in general. Who better to write programs to clean up viruses than those who have created them? The capability to do either would have to be quite similar.

I think it is time I backed out of this thread! I had assumed the issues were to do with us arriving at different views on Ccleaner/Piriform site. It appears to be on a slightly different trend now.

Not sure on that Ian. What "clean" build.
Apart from that little square, as in Cliff's post, I didn't find anything changed? No adware here??
Later.
I 'm concerned, Ian. Sure you were not a victim of this:

Sorry, perhaps "clean" was the wrong word - they used to have a slim installer that came without any additional downloads. I used to download that one, rather than the normal installer. Thankfully not the compromised version though. Here's what it used to look like (from Archive.org):

Comp Cmndo Thanks! for the link.
That's the same site Piriform directed users to when they were hacked a few months back.

When I ran into trouble with their download site silently installing Avast I went to their site for the 5.38.6357 update. I would recommend that every one that uses ccleaner download updates using the above links. I believe they are worthy of bookmarking.

ttp://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds .

I usually just go direct to Piriform and select "Free Download"
Your first link is direct to it, but starts downloading without interaction. I am not too happy with that.
But lets us not forget the essence of this thread. It is still necessary, unless you want it, whichever download site you choose, to untick that darned Avast box at the start of the install. For what it's worth, I untick the two options for the recycle bin also. I see no purpose in "Ccleaning" it

Sometimes it's Avast, sometimes something else; it's not even consistent among my 7 computers (got to get of some of them). Sometimes there's a delay in the optional download appearing, so it can be inadvertently overlooked.

Thanks! What really bothered me was the deceptive, underhanded dirty pool way of installing Avast/setup and execution of the software. I was totally unaware that the software had been installed until I saw the shortcut on my desktop.

Strange happenings here I was just there last week to update Ccleaner 5.38. I too was going to get the portable version today, now my browser FF blocks the page redirect. I have my browser Privacy & Security settings set to "Warn when websites try to install add-ons" Me thinks that the redirect could be Download.com/cnet.com ? That makes me happy knowing that my browser is working as designed.
