I shake in myy shoes whenever I hear that MS has a new "upgrade". In the distant past, an upgrade was that, it improved one's experience of the program. But for many moons past, an upgrade has beeen a downgrade. It involves disruption with very little improvement. God help us all.

OK. The old pessimist, as always.

Installed from an ISO, totally fresh, no personal info or any other hangovers.

Is this one year (at least9 progress. I am, almost desperately , trying to find what has been done over the past year of constant builds (in which I did not participate until now). I cannot find anything significant, for the average desktop user, which is going to get anyone excited.

Please! If anyone has any comments. No "under the hood" explanations.

I got nothing. :)

In fact, with that as your parameter, you could probably go all the way back to 1507 (10240) and ask yourself, basically the same question.....
Has all the problems that have come with each subsequent version actually produced anything "for the average desktop user" that has been worth the hassle.
OR
Are we all just playing along with the industry's scheme of self perpetuation and planned obsolescence. IF you want this software, then you need this hardware or if you want this hardware then you need this software.

I guess I can't complain.
After all, it provided me with a very nice career and subsequent retirement and still provides me with endless entertainment by way of continuing to try to figure out why it still continues to break and how to fix it.

Wondering if today (Update Tuesday) will firm up speculation regarding the final product scheduled to be release a week from today

Another good sign.
Why, because you feel this signifies the release on the 17th will be this build?

I suppose I will be watching to see in the build helps with the InstantGo situation. As far as I can tell, that has been a total failure for the user.

The Creator's build did turn on my Infrared camera for facial recognition, so at least that was for a normal user.

One thing, for the nervous installers.
On initialisation, it asks the usual, Do you want to keep programs and data. do you want to keep personal data only. Do not keep anything.

For the sake of those I help locally, I tried all three - and they worked 100%

Yes.
AND since installing this latest build, I remove my machine from the insider program which left me with this build installed and intact, so now I am thinking that with today being "Update Tuesday" that if this build receives a cumulative update (if one is offered today) that would further confirm that we have and have had the final product for just over a week now.

AND then there is this persistent nonsense which we have to deal with as well
Windows 10 version 1511 will no longer receive security updates
After October 10, 2017, Windows 10 devices running version 1511 will no longer receive security and quality updates. Microsoft recommends updating devices to the latest version of Windows 10

Well.... Update Tuesday has come and gone and was a bit anticlimactic.
I got an update for Defender and the monthly Microsoft MSRT (Malicious Software Removal Tool) and that was it, despite having my hopes raised by rumors of KB4046355 and its' attendant problem with Windows Media Player.
Neither my machine that is still in the Insider program nor my machine that I removed from the Insider program, both running 16299.15, saw that particular update.
The update has been released for the Insider version of Windows 10 version 1709, but not to all devices that run the beta version of the upcoming Fall Creators Update version of Windows 10

Pretty sure that, this is as definitive as it's going to get. At least until next Tuesday.
UPDATE 10/10: As part of final preparations for the general availability of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update on Oct. 17th, we have begun releasing Build 16299.15 to Windows Insiders in the Release Preview ring. If you are in the Release Preview ring and don’t see this build offered yet – be patient as it will be rolling out over the course of the next few days to everyone in the Release Preview ring.

Now if they would just put the ISO up. That would be great.

Yes I noticed.
I'll keep checking. Normally they put it up a week after they release to slow ring.
Although they may not, since this is the likely RTM, we probably won't be able to actually get it until the 17th.

So far today I've been seeing some Twitter info suggesting that the the Fall Creators Update is available now and that the build you received is in fact 16299.15 which is gonna require (I suspect) at least one immediate Cumulative Update to bump it to 16299.19.
I'm not able to get it yet through Windows Update although I suspect it is still a few minutes early and will try again after noon.
I was able to get it from microsoft.com at
https://software-download.microsoft...1508342803&h=739a49cee6448db6ca4cbdb2802516cf
BUT... I would prefer to get it normally through Windows Update.

I just got a cumulative KB4049179, or at least I thought it was. It seems to be for Adobe Flash.

it is.... I guess we gonna have to wait for the CU to 16299.19
I discovered the machine I was on never saw the Feature update, so it was getting just the other ones available. It took me all day to get that straightened out and it appears it was caused by holdover folders from 14393.

All 5 systems have now updated without problems.

I did just realize a Media Creator downloaded for one build will always work for that same build. Even though the new one was available, the Media Creator I had downloaded earlier still got me the build for 14393.
