The laptop is about 5 years old. It takes forever to boot and opening any app is a painfully slow process. I made sure that I have the latest version of Windows, ran CCleaner, Glary, ScanDisk, Resmon, Defrag, removed startup apps and can't find out why this is happening. Any ideas?

I went through the Windows repair process (took 7 hours) and the computer appeared to be fixed. However, a few days later the old slow symptoms reappeared. It is slow to boot and to open an app. Once in an app, it runs as it should. Don't know if it is related, but Microsoft runs a Windows update at least once a week. Those updates take a long time, as much as 20 minutes. Don't know if that is related to my slowness issue, but would not be surprised.
