What does the x on Windows 10 desktop shortcuts mean? It seems like they just sstarted appearing. Under Windows 7, little arrows were used to indicate shoutcut links.

Where is the x positioned ?
Does the x replace the arrow ?

I haven't personally seen any of these.
Do the shortcuts still work?
Some backup software like Carbonite and a few other may overlay certain Icons with indicators that show if it is being backed up.
Maybe rebuild your thumbnail and icon cache and see if that helps
