Won't identify as 8.1?

I've been eagerly waiting since yesterday to get my Win 10 app up and notify me... but nothing.
I've done all updates, tried the media creation tool earlier today, and finally a while ago found a 'checker' on an MS site that came back with I don't have the right version of Windows to upgrade from?
I have 8.1 64 bit, but it says I have version 6.3???
Any help is greatly appreciated.

When you tried that, were you careful to make sure that you select the proper architecture as well as the correct version (Pro, Home, etc.)
If you have the enterprise version installed I don't believe that the tool will work.
