Hi Robert,

You need to modify your Registry in multiple locations, then set it as your default viewer.

Attached is a file: WPV.reg
  • Download the file
  • Scan with your antivirus/malware software
  • When satisfied its safe, right-click and select Merge
  • A series of alerts will appear, click Yes or OK when prompted
  • Now in search/Cortana field, type Default app settings and press Enter key
  • Locate Photo Viewer then click Choose a default and select Windows Photo Viewer
Done!

Personally I feel Windows 10 Photos app is better and in time you may come to agree.

If you do then download the second attached file: RemoveWPV.reg

Scan with your antivirus/malware software and when satisfied it is safe right-click and select Merge

When prompted click Yes or OK

Then return to Default app settings and select Photos instead for your Photo viewer

Why you need this Old Windows Photo Viewer, check the latest KrojamSoft PhotoViewerPro which can provide you many options. Currently, I am using it.
