Hi,

The laptop of my mom which has been upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 10 Pro won't shut down; when I choose for Shutdown it reboots itself.

Even by using the commandpromt it doesn't shut down; any solutions?

Regards.

What I am going to say will have the purist geeks screaming but here it is anyway- When all else fails pull the plug. I've done that many times and contrary to conventional wisdom the computer does not self-destruct.

Yeah that's not a real solution.....the computer should be able to shut itself off....

my HP was updated to windows 10 pro recently
then got 2 problems simultaneously :

1.my HP won't shutdown (black screen but the on/off button indicator keep on)

I did these steps, it worked...

- go to "control panel"
- click " system and security" or "hardware ans sound"
- click " power options"
- on the left side of the screen, click "choose what the power button does"
- click "change settings that are currently unavailable"
- on shutdown settings, uncheck "turn on fast startup (recommended)"
- click "save changes"

2.after sleep mode, my HP won't wakeup (screen keep black when the on/off button indicator is on)

do these steps

- go to "control panel"
- click " system and security" or "hardware ans sound"
- click " power options"
- on the left side of the screen, click "choose what the power button does"
- click "change settings that are currently unavailable"
- on shutdown settings, uncheck "turn on fast startup (recommended)"
- on password protect when wakeup, click "don't require a password"
- click "save changes"

restart your computer, when you find its worked
do the final steps to re-active power options, as follows:

- go to "control panel"
- click " system and security" or "hardware ans sound"
- click " power options"
- on the left side of the screen, click "choose what the power button does"
- click "change settings that are currently unavailable"
- on shutdown settings, check "turn on fast startup (recommended)"
- on password protect when wakeup, click "require a password (recommended)
- click "save changes"

done, restart you computer to see if your steps worked
goodluck

Had the same problem - automatic reboot when I hibernate, sleep or shut down. Read in a thread somewhere that the problem could be to do with having competing antivirus software running. The I remembered the problem started after installing latest Flash update. These come with default settings to include McAfee & Trust Key software, which I didn't unclick. I use Avira antivirus software. so I uninstalled the bits added by Flash (eventually, takes 2 or 3 reboots), and now my PC hibernates & sleeps properly again.

Here is how to fix Windows 10 won’t shutdown with Black screen after Creators Update

Open settings by pressing windows key + I.

Now, click on system.

Click on power & sleep.

Now, click on additional power settings.

Now, click on Choose what the power buttons do from the left menu.

Click on change settings that are currently unavailable.

Now, Uncheck turn on fast startup . Finally, click on save changes.
