Windows 10 Runtime Problem

When trying to upload images via a fresh download of Canon's ZoomBrowserEX (6.9) I get the message "This app has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Contact application's support team for more information."

I'm using Windows 10 Professional 64-bit on a Toshiba Portege R835 and have read some conflicting and confusing instructions for correcting this on the internet. I'm not very good at working with the innards of Windows. Can I fix this myself? Is there a correcting download from Microsoft to cure what seems to be a common complaint? Would resetting my computer to an earlier date do any good? Should I just throw in the towel and take my computer to a repair service? Help!
