Windows 10 not responding to shut down or restart

im having a problem with restarting or shutting down my windows 10,whenever i press the windows key and click shut down or restart from there nothing will happen at all,now i have to update my windows 10 but i am unable to as i have to restart or shut down my laptop in order to do it,thank you

Hello and welcome to the forum.
IF you right click the start button and choose Shut down or Restart from the "Shut down or sign out" context menu, does that work??

Can you open an admin command prompt and type
shutdown /s /t 00
and hit enter
Does that shut down your computer
OR
shutdown /r /t 00
Does that restart your computer
