I had reformatted & loaded Win 10 the other day and after wrestling with it decided to reload my Win & disc after another reformat. But had & having some issues like I lost my mouse, luckily I have a portable mouse for my laptop that I could use, got it installed and it was very slow loading at times& my sound disappeared. Got all fixed so now I'm thinking I should finally go to Win 10.

Should I just load 10 over the top of the installation of 7 or should I reformat and load Win10 from the disc I made of 10 some time ago. I did overwrite Win7 to 10 some time ago before the deadline but decided to convert back to 7, MS has or should have my registration on file so that shouldn't be a problem, or is it? Is there a way to determine before I dump 7 that they have the my digital key on file? If I overwrite 7 can I use the Win 10 disc to do that or should I go someplace online to get it? Thanks for any help.

Provided you upgraded to Windows 10 during the Free uprade period you are fine, as Microsoft keeps their digital license matching your computer hardware on their Servers.

Given you had some issues getting things as you wanted with Windows 7, I'd suggest simply upgrading to Windows 10 again [ i.e. leave Windows 7 as is ] and when it gets to the screen asking for license click the I don't have one option as during the installation or soon after it will automatically activate once it connects to the Microsoft Servers.

Note: If you have changed any significant hardware, i.e. Hard drive, Motherboard, then do as above, but you'll need to telephone Microsoft to get the OS activated.

Hi I agree with @Regedit32. I would add one more step. I would create a image of W7 with a 3rd party program like Macrium Reflect. That way you will be able to switch back. If you would have created a image of W10 before, you could have used that to restore back to W10. It is my understanding that you do not have to reformat.
You can get the W10 media creation tool here. If you use this, you should get all the updates. That's the way I understand it.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
PS You could try to click on "Update Now" It might just work sense you had W10 running before.
Let us know how things go.

Thanks to both of you for your info. The Disc I made of Win 10 I put a date on it I suspect when I made it and that is 1/17/2015, not sure if that is correct but it is on the case as well as my Disc so it must be. The # on it is the same as the one that came with my Win 7 Disc, would that be correct. If not MS should have the digital file as I did both my PC & my laptop about the same time and before the free download period was up. I overwrote both PC's with Win 10 & then after a short period of time I went back to Win 7. I should have created a copy of Win 10 but had no intention to going back for a long time, so much for thinking. So I will overwrite Win 7 with Win 10. Can I just use the Win 10 Disc I made to do the overwrite or do I need to go the the Link you posted for me garybear. If I use the Disc to overwrite will it dump all the programs I have just loaded in the last few days or will it leave them on the PC? That would save me a lot of time if they will be left alone so i can get back to operation quickly as I still have a few more programs to load. I plan on doing this 1/25 in the AM. Will follow up on my results.

After installing Win 10 I tried to disable Edge, when I get to the part about checking the box it will no let me complete that step, I change it from black and then go onto the next step then I go back & see if it did keep the change but the box is still solid Black, no matter how many times I tried I couldn't get it to stay checked, any idea what the issue could be or should I put this in a different forum or post in the same one I did with the other question.

#1 is the procedure I used. #2. I did find this a long time ago as another way to do this but I have never tried it though it looks easy to do.

#1. With this method when I get into it and look at the items in the folders I do see MicrosoftEdge but it doesn't have the .exe at the end and MicrosoftEdgeCP does not have the .exe at the end the either. Moot point I guess since I cant get the black square to stay checked rather than staying black.

Remove Edge I got this off the forum some time ago.

http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5507-default-apps-choose-windows-10-a.html

Navigate to the Windows Apps install location:
C:\Windows\SystemApps\
And right-click the Microsoft Edge folder, Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe, and select Properties, where you can set the folder and all its contents to Read-Only (make sure the checkbox shows a checkmark, not a square). This will prevent Windows from making changes to the folder.
Then, you can open the folder and rename the Microsoft Edge executables (MicrosoftEdge.exeand MicrosoftEdgeCP.exe) and/or delete them. I would rename them.

#2 Method

How to uninstall and remove the Edge browser in Windows 10

RECOMMENDED: Click here to fix Windows errors and optimize system performance

In Windows 10, Microsoft introduced a new browser called Microsoft Edge. It was created to replace Internet Explorer. Edge is positioned as a modern browser with support of all mainstream web standards. Microsoft implemented a new rendering engine for the browser, which stripped out a lot of legacy code. However, for many users, Microsoft Edge is not at all impressive. It lacks usability, comes without extensions support and it is a Modern/Universal app with many limitations. Its user interface is absolutely terrible and it has no configurable options at all compared to Internet Explorer's rich options. Many users think of Edge as a junk browser and want to remove Microsoft Edge from Windows 10. Today, I would like to share how it can be done.

Like any built-in Windows apps, Microsoft Edge has no option to get rid of it. To
uninstall and remove the Edge browser in Windows 10, we need to refer to a third party tool. Follow the intructions below:

1. Download the Uninstall Edge ZIP file I made to make it easy.
2. Extract all files from the ZIP archive you downloaded to any desired folder, e.g. Desktop
3 Right click the Unistall Edge.cmd file and select "Run as Administrator"
4 Wait till the process is done.t Windows 10.

6 Now, set your favorite browser as the default. For example, to set Firefox as the default, refer to this article: How to set Firefox as the default browser in Windows 10.

Behind this trick is an application called WIMTweak which manages Windows Packages and allows you to hide/unhide them from the Windows image (WIM) file. It works on offline images as well as online. WIMTweak was created by MSFN user Legolash2o, so credits for this awesome tool go to him.
