we are outfitting new surface pro's in our shop as well as updating some other pc's.
When going to Win 10 from either 7 or 8 builds we notice some are not able to print.
What we are seeing
1. all printers are there, but greyed out.
2. if you right click on a printer you do not get the full printer menu you get windows menu.
3. if you click print in a application you might get no printers found.

What we have done/ found out so far
1. we have narrowed it down to spooler is kicking in and out.
2. it is not the printer as the printers are newer printers and are working on other windows 10 upgraded machines.
3. we have done the windows feature suggestion
a. right click windows icon and click on CONTROL PANEL
b. on the left click on TURN WINDOWS FEATURES ON OR OFF
c. click the + sign next to PRINT AND DOCUMENT SERVICES
d. select LPD AND LPR
e. deselect INTERNET PRINTING CLIENT
f. click ok
g. RESTART pc

4. we have tried the registry edit
a. right click on windows icon and click on RUN
b. type in REGEDIT and click OK (if a security box comes up say ok or yes)
c. navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.....SYSTEM.....CURRENTCONTROLSET.......SERVICSE......SPOOLER
d. with spooler highlighted on the right double click DEPENDONSERVICE
e. highlight HTTP only, and remove it by using backspace or delete
f. click on OK
g. close regedit
h. RESTART pc

5. and we have tried services (this one has been our issue most of the time)
a. right click on windows icon and click RUN
b. type in SERVICSE.MSC and click OK
c. scroll down and look for the following and check the startup type
aa. Device Association Service set to Automatic startup (we have found that this is a manual trigger usually and was our issue)
bb. Device Install Service set to Manual Trigger
cc. Device Management Enrollment set to Manual
dd. Device Setup Manager set to Manual Trigger
ee. DevQuery Background Discovery set to Manual Trigger
dd. close out of the services screen
ee. RESTART machine

We are not apart of Microsoft or any affiliates, we offer this as only as what we have done and not a patch or update from the suppliers.

I hope this helps and will post more as we come across issues with our upgrading.

thank you, yeah we been fighting with that issue and all I find is mainly print drivers, which I understand is the root to most of the print errors, but we have new kyoceras MFPs as well as Toshibas, so the drivers didn't work so the hunt was on lol. and I thought I would put what I found in one spot for everyone, just hopes it helps.

*** UPDATE** this is the website for the diagnostic tool, this is for windows
we have to run this a few times, its not third party its used by Microsoft support
http://aka.ms/diag_printer10
when we run it we choose printer
it will detect spooler errors and printer errors
follow the steps it fixed two of ours.

Thanks! I tried them all and still can't get the spooler to start. The computer finds the printer but I keep getting the "where the heck is your spooler" error. There was just a windows update so now I'll just go to the time right before it to see if that is the culprit. Thanks for all of your adivce!

Hi Everybody,
I had the same problem with my print spooler not working since I had installed Windows 10. That was 2 months ago and the entire time my printer did not work. It would only scan for some off reason. Went through all the different help forums out there, tried EVERYTHING, nothing worked. UNTIL this morning. I found a site that mentioned "Tweaking.com" windows repair. I ran the program and NOW my printer works again. I could not believe it!!!!!!!!
I'm posting this everywhere now. IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!

I was excited to try your fix but unfortunately, it still didn't fix my spooler problem. This is ridiculous that a printer and Microsoft Office does not work properly with a Microsoft upgrade.

Hello here is the solution of the printer spooler error Error 0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect:
"Nothing of that that is not the solution for the code error 0x80070057, the same thing happened to me and I couldn't find any solution through Microsoft nor any website, for that reason I had to find the solution by myself testing with vmware, everything is due to trying to improve the security of the system ports by disabling the vulnerable ports of windows through regedit adding keys. the problem is here on: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Rpc\Internet
"UseInternetPorts"="N"
that complete entry \internet & value "UseInternetPorts"="N"
is the Error 0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect.
You only have to delete the complete key \internet and entry value "UseInternetPorts"="N" right click and delete.

Restart pc, ¡ENJOY! THE PRINT SPOOLER SERVICE WORKING AGAIN!"
