we are outfitting new surface pro's in our shop as well as updating some other pc's.
When going to Win 10 from either 7 or 8 builds we notice some are not able to print.
What we are seeing
1. all printers are there, but greyed out.
2. if you right click on a printer you do not get the full printer menu you get windows menu.
3. if you click print in a application you might get no printers found.
What we have done/ found out so far
1. we have narrowed it down to spooler is kicking in and out.
2. it is not the printer as the printers are newer printers and are working on other windows 10 upgraded machines.
3. we have done the windows feature suggestion
a. right click windows icon and click on CONTROL PANEL
b. on the left click on TURN WINDOWS FEATURES ON OR OFF
c. click the + sign next to PRINT AND DOCUMENT SERVICES
d. select LPD AND LPR
e. deselect INTERNET PRINTING CLIENT
f. click ok
g. RESTART pc
4. we have tried the registry edit
a. right click on windows icon and click on RUN
b. type in REGEDIT and click OK (if a security box comes up say ok or yes)
c. navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.....SYSTEM.....CURRENTCONTROLSET.......SERVICSE......SPOOLER
d. with spooler highlighted on the right double click DEPENDONSERVICE
e. highlight HTTP only, and remove it by using backspace or delete
f. click on OK
g. close regedit
h. RESTART pc
5. and we have tried services (this one has been our issue most of the time)
a. right click on windows icon and click RUN
b. type in SERVICSE.MSC and click OK
c. scroll down and look for the following and check the startup type
aa. Device Association Service set to Automatic startup (we have found that this is a manual trigger usually and was our issue)
bb. Device Install Service set to Manual Trigger
cc. Device Management Enrollment set to Manual
dd. Device Setup Manager set to Manual Trigger
ee. DevQuery Background Discovery set to Manual Trigger
dd. close out of the services screen
ee. RESTART machine
We are not apart of Microsoft or any affiliates, we offer this as only as what we have done and not a patch or update from the suppliers.
I hope this helps and will post more as we come across issues with our upgrading.
