Dell Studio XPS 9100 Win 10 Home 64 Bits was on watching the Mars rover landing, left PC and returned a few minutes later to a black screen with a message "Failed to boot strike F1 to retry"

Tried the F1 with the same result, returned the message "Failed to boot strike F1 to retry" instantly, no evidence that it was attempting to boot. Held power button until PC turned off. Waited a few minutes and powered back on with same results, black screen with a message "Failed to boot strike F1 to retry"

Looks like it can not find the master boot record. It appears to be no windows directory on the hard drive.

Has this happen to anyone else and has it been solved?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

you will need a USB/DVD copy of the latest Win 10 and follow the guide below, reading from "If you can't boot Windows 10". :)
