WiFi connection lost when using battery

I have a 3 year old Dell Inspiron 15R 7520 laptop with an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 adapter.

Since upgrading to Windows 10, the wifi connection drops out when using battery power and the only way to restore it is to restart the computer using mains power.

"Allow the computer to turn off this device ..... " is unchecked.

I am not the only one with a Dell 7520 laptop running Windows 10 that has this problem.

Any thoughts on the cause and/or the way to fix it?

Hi Mondeoman44,

One thing you could try is the following:
  • In search bar type Power Options then press Enter
  • To the right of Balanced (Recommended) click the link: Change plan settings
  • Click the link: Change advanced power settings
  • Scroll down to Wireless Adapter settings and expand like so:
— Wireless Adapter Settings
— Power Saving Mode
—Setting:
A setting will be present here
  • If that setting does not say: Maximum Performance then Left click | Use drop arrow to select this
  • Click Apply

With any luck you may notice an improvement.

Oh one last thought: In that Power Option, "Wireless Adapter Settings" you may have another option for "Battery On". If you do make sure its settings are also set to
Maximum Performance.

Hi Mondeoman44,
Thanks Regedit32. Early days yet but it seems that your solution has solved the problem. Power Saving Mode was set to Medium Power Saving. With the setting changed to Maximum Performance the laptop has been running on battery for nearly 2 hours and wifi has not dropped out.
Once again, thanks for your help.

I just bought a Lenovo Yoga 730-131KB laptop and have the same problem. The wifi connection is fine when plugged in but is quickly lost when running on battery. The battery was set for "Medium Performance" and after changing the setting to Maximum Performance", things seem to be working fine.
