Where are 'Favorites' and 'Recent places' in file explorer?

Much as I like Windows 10, and despite an unnecessarily difficult installation, I'm astounded to find that they have apparently abandoned the 'Favorites' and 'Recent places' folders - which I had grown to love.

Are they hiding them somewhere? Is there a way to restore/find them? Have I missed something obvious?

(I can't believe that they would be so stupid as to get rid of them - 'recent files' and 'Frequent folders' are good, but not quite as useful to me).

Join the club getting ready to put my fist through the monitor. Favorites is a total cluster F**k.
Lousy sorting option. How to save a URL in a folder of my choice is invented by the devil in Microsoft.

If not a quick solution I will abandon Windows 10. I had an instant dislike (hate) to Windows 8 and I'm getting close to get the same opinion on Windows 10.
