I have mixed feelings about this article and its' remarks about Microsoft making the creation of a Local User account more difficult.
Anyone who has done a clean install from the latest available ISO knows this is more or less true but it sort of seems their suggesting it's nearly impossible and everyone is up in arms about it.

These same people do not give a thought to using their Gmail account to log onto their Android Phone or their Apple ID to log onto their iPhone, so the complaint seems rather pretentious and just a bit hypocritical.

Full disclosure I use a Microsoft Account across multiple devices as the "primary" account on those devices.
BUT I still want a local account (as a member of the local administrators group) just so I know or at least believe, that I have a bailout option should my primary profile ever become corrupt.

To me it makes sense Microsoft are actively encouraging a Connected PC approach, given their plans to improve security updates etc.

Should a User choose to primarily use their main computer offline, they'll be missing out of receiving updates that might well prevent their OS running optimally, or for that matter securely. I realize many will assume while offline they are not prone to the latest virus/malware attacks, but given the plethora of portable devices many of us plug in to our PCs - that are shared between devices - the risks of accidental infection is still fairly high.

Personally I find the OneDrive cloud option handy for when I choose to perform a clean install, however, I also prefer to maintain my own backups offline too.

I feel the article would be more useful if the writer chose to wait for a response from Microsoft so they could offer a balanced review, rather than throw out a bunch of random claims and assertions by people who could not even provide us their credentials - but chose instead to use their online aliases - ironic given they appear to be wanting to be offline!

I don't want an always connected account. I can not rely on always being connected. For me it is a local account or nothing.

These same people do not give a thought to using their Gmail account to log onto their Android Phone or their Apple ID to log onto their iPhone, so the complaint seems rather pretentious and just a bit hypocritical.
My ISP connection does not have the stability of cellular service. We have only had one cell service downtime. We have had numerous downtime with our ISP. Several occasions our service didn't go down but our rates dropped to nothing. And it is even worse with everything wanting to be connected. From my point of view our ISP does not support everything being connected.

As far as a phone being connected the only service I use is automatic uploads of the phone's camera.

We are quite happy to use our Microsoft accounts and be connected all the time. Our ISP over cable certainly is close to 99.9% working as it should.

Well, I would be totally screwed if we could only have an online connected account. While I do have MS Accounts on all my units I use local accounts as my main accounts at all times. I only use my MS Accounts for Windows Store. The Reason like thousands of other people I work on the Ocean of the world on barges boats and ships, most with very limited bandwidth shared with many people. I have at times had to get up at 03:00 when most people are sleeping just to download email. This also goes for people that work the interior of this country where the internet is limited to none at all. There are very good reasons for at least thousands of people to have and use local accounts.
