I have installed a couple of programs but then decided to uninstall them only to get a message saying I have insufficient authority to do so.

Hi jaredmoran,

which programs and which method did you try to uninstall them with?. ;)

Are you logged in as "Admin" or as "Guest/Other user"?. :)

There are a few, one is called "Driver Update". To uninstall I go to Settings/Apps/Apps&features. I am the only User on this machine and I do have Admin authority.

That may be but it is not the only package I'm having this same issue with. I think there must be something security wise that I need to change but don't know what it might be. The site you pointed me to recommends installing two more packages in order to uninstall the one... I would prefer not installing more...

Did you read the (second) link thoroughly?
Malware Bytes or Ccleaner will do it for you.
