I have read several threads on the internet. I got one or two instructions, neither of which worked to shut down the requirement for login.

Whats worse and really maddening is that the links in the instructions were not found on the computer. They had to be interpolated in order to figure out where to go. What is wrong with Microsoft.

What ARE the instructions? Is it a Microsoft secret????

Maybe you mean the lock screen/initial login?

There are several threads on this but, for reasons unknown, users are having difficulty and failures. The process is hidden, but has been precisely the same since at least Windows XP.

So, to repeat:

Right click the start orb and select "Run"
Type in:
netplwiz or control userpasswords2
This will take you to this screen. You must UNcheck the box at the top - "Users must enter a...etc."

Click OK or Apply

This will take you to this window:

You must put in your password, in both instances.

When you reboot to log in again, you should find you go straight to the desktop.
