Hello Dal T and welcome to the forum.
You may be stuck with a corrupt user profile.
Try this first.
Restart the computer in safe mode or safe mode with networking.
Just use Ctrl Alt Delete and the power button in the bottom right.
Hold the shift key while clicking "Restart"
Read the subsequent prompts to adjust Windows Startup Behavior and then choose restart and then
#4 for Safe Mode
#5 for Safe Mode with networking.
If things seem to work better in either or both of those boot configurations
See if just booting normally back into Windows seems to now have somehow miraculously cured itself.
I don't know why, or how, but sometimes it seems to work for some people.
If not, then you need to try creating a new user, make sure that it's a member of the local admin group and not a standard user.
Log on to that new profile and after a minute or two see if it behaves any better than yours.
