I am using the Outlook app, Windows 10 on the Surface Pro. Attachments to emails take a long time to open (this is not the case if I were to access my Gmail via a browser to open the same attachment). Help.

Forget about the silly Mail app in Win 10. It is rudimentary and woefully inadequate.
Continue using your Gmail via your browser.

I do the same on my Outlook.com....... via my IE11.

The Mail app is just a "middleman". Little point to use it if we can use our web-based email program directly. There are numerous features in our Gmail or Outlook.com that we cannot access if using Mail app.

Bottom line : Mail app is a stripped down version of Outlook.com.
If one needs only receiving and sending mails. it is ok to use.
For more "advanced " users, Mail app is inadequate.
