Hi, puzzling problem this one, although someone out thwre may have an answer. My Laptop, a DELL Inspiron 15 7000 2 in 1 (touchscreen) refuses to obey any of the settings in the Power Options settings in Control Panel.. I have set it to 'Hibernate' when closing the lid but it steadfastly refuses to do so. Same with any of the other options - no difference, it simply stays on, screen lit and pumping away. Not an issue when on mains but obviously on battery a problem.

Anybody any idea what I am missing/doing wrong...?

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Hi Robert,

what version of Win 10 do you have, an upgrade (if necessary) may solve the problem!. :)

Thanks for the reply. I am running Win 10 Home 21H1 Build 19043.985 and have checked for updates. Problem still exists.

Maybe Hibernate is being over-ridden by the power settings by what closing the lid on a Notebook is set for. I don't bother with Sleep and Hibernate as they usually cause more issues than I need to deal with.

Hi Robert,

are there any power settings in BIOS/UEFI that are related to the sleep/hibernate function. Do you have a manual for your model to check?.

I agree with Bighorn. I don't use sleep or other power savers as they have always caused me problems when I needed to get work done. :)

It's not just hibernate it refuses to implement, it's all of them, shut down as well. I've even avoided touching the screen (as it's a touchscreen model) before closing the lid in case this was overriding the settings.

Hi Robert,

have you tried running troubleshoot to see if that will help?.

Settings > Updates & Security > Troubleshoot. :)

Hi Robert,

I don't have anything else except not using any power savers as I find they cause problems on both Windows and Linux. I simply save what I am doing if need be and shut my computers down. I have 4 at home. :)
