Recently I decided to reset my computer to factory condition using the recovery disks provided to my PC manufacturer, only to find that Microsoft no longer provides security updates for Windows 7. My shock quickly turned to anger. Microsoft promised to support Windows 7 until 2020, and this decision is the most shameful and most sinister action it has ever perpetrated against its customers. Microsoft has become nothing more than a deceitful and dishonest bully and has, for me, forever ruined its reputation as a reliable software provider.

Actually Microsoft only ended free telephone support for Windows 7 back in Jan 2015. You won't get non security updates, but Windows 7 will receive security updates until Jan 14, 2020.

I recently put Windows 7 back (Luv It!) on my Laptop. and got a years (over 300) worth of important security updates. Plus at least 200 updates for MS Office which I right clicked to hide as I didn't want to download at this time.

I, like you, was under the impression the Windows 7 would be support with security updates through 2020.
Very interested in finding out how you were able to determine that, that is not the case and that security updates have been discontinued.
Would you happen to have a resource that you can point us to that supports that information? Perhaps a link?

Here's the official Lifecycle page from Microsoft for their products. Note that extend support for Windows 7 is available through 2020.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet

To understand the difference between the Mainstream Support Phase and the Extended Support Phase and what is supplied, read number 6 on this page. Security updates are definitely part of the Extended Support Phase.

I use a Lenovo PC, 6 GB RAM, 2.6 MGZ Processor, 1 TB disk - and I am receiving no security updates, not automatically or manually - I don't understand it.

John you are most likely up to date. I would imagine Win 7 is less of a threat (fewer security updates) now the hackers have moved on to expose Windows 10

That is not all that unusual. IF you've recently performed a clean install of Windows 7, it can be a real pain to get Windows 7 to commence updating itself again.
You want to first make sure that you have Service pack 1 installed and then you will need to download the April Servicing Stack update and then the Convience Rollup as explained here
http://www.howtogeek.com/255435/how...l-at-once-with-microsofts-convenience-rollup/

Even after that, Windows 7 Updates may look like it is checking for updates endlessly without actually getting anywhere. Sometimes letting it run over-night will finally get it to break loose.
IF that happens to you after doing SP1, Servicing Stack and Convience Rollup, post back and we'll see if we can get it to, do a better job.
