Every time I try to set up a pin number instead of a password it doesn't work.
When I enter a pin number and then confirm it, nothing happens. When I click on 'OK' the box disappears for a second a then reappears with the pin I'd just entered blank and the cursor flashing inviting me to enter pin and confirm again. I try again and it just does the same thing. I tried restarting the pc to see if it had accepted the pin but it just asks me to enter password as usual.

Yep, tried that but same thing happens. I've now bypassed the 'asking for a password' option and will just let the pc start without it.
Thanks for your reply.

The password is always needed. There may be times when a PIN cannot be used but a password will work. Folks who forget their passwords usually end up having to reinstall.
