Previous installed iTunes needs to be removed

I am trying to install Apple iTunes on my Windows 10 PC, but I receive a message saying that the previously installed iTunes needs to be removed. The iTunes installer is unable to remove the previous version, and I cannot find iTunes in the list of installed programs. Is there a workaround for this problem?
