No watermark and no expiration date.
Not sure if that has any remarkable significance or not....
Just passing along things I'm noticing

Microsoft is consistent. The updates consistently fail. I tried the latest slow build and fast build with the same errors. Too bad they do not have a good programmer in charge of development.

But were the Builds the exact same number? Frequently Fast and Slow are not the same Build at the same time, same for the Skip Ahead. I'm proud to be part of the unsung majority in not having the problems some are having, only big issue was the onboard Intel Express video adapter, quickly cured with an Sapphire ATI Radeon 2400HD add-in card.

fast was 18356.1 slow was 18351.7 . I assume my troubles are due to Microsoft requiring something I do not want or have. I have used several hard drives that work fine on 18342.8 I added the store app some time ago thinking that would fix my problems but no change.
My computer has I7 3770K and 32 GB ram. My best hard drive is 14 months old Toshiba network drive with 128 cache. Thanks for your help

The Store is automatically included with Windows install and Upgrades and Builds, most times will come back after one has removed it, also other things when removing bloatware. I've taken Candy Crush out numerous times and it keeps coming back.

I've wondered for some time whether newer computers are part of the problems [maybe too good], my latest is 2.5 years old and came from the ASUS line of business machines, quite stable.

I put together my computer in 2012 but it is better than a laptop. I keep a lot of extra space on my C partition so that cannot be a problem. I have no problems except with the insider builds in the last several months. 18305 was fine but everything since (except for 18342.8) has not installed, with message saying one or more components are missing. If I were the programmer I would compare the code for 18305 with the next version to find the difference which caused the trouble.

Something that might be worth noting for future reference.....
Apparently some computers are having their insider preview settings undone. The term that they seem to be using is "opted out"

To slow ring today
UPDATE 3/19: Hello Windows Insiders, we have released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18356.16 (KB4494123) to Windows Insiders in the Slow ring. This Cumulative Update is a little bit bigger as it is designed to help us test our servicing pipeline with larger updates. This update contains nothing new. We simply updated the version numbers of several components in the OS.

Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18356.16 (KB4494123) failed as usual
Maybe 18361 will be better, Ted but did you see my comment about the desktop.ini file and what is in it? Did you check yours to make sure it had all the lines necessary.

I have found a Microsoft site which covers many of the problems with updates, if you want those links.

These are my two Desktop files, desktop.ini. The numbers may be different so we may not be looking at the exact same thing but the numbers may be dependent on your actual install. You might try adding the second (IconResource) line to see if it helps, assuming that imageres.dll is located where is it supposed to be. I already have the second so I have not tried adding it, but if it is for your desktop, it should possibly set the size of the icons.

I checked another system and those two files are the same as yours and the second one (21799) only has the single line as yours does. So you should look for another Desktop.ini on your desktop to see if it matches the 21769 listing including the IconResource.

But it still may mean something not related to these types of files.

[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21769
IconResource=%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll,-183

The second one seems to be related to my Nvidia install.

[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21799

[LocalizedFileNames]
3D Vision Photo Viewer.lnk=@%ProgramFiles(x86)%\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision\nvstlink.exe,-2003

So they have released an 18356.21 build so those in the slow ring with the update problem to 18362 should be able to move on through a normal progression... I wonder if that is going to work.

More wait and see.
UPDATE 4/2: We have released Build 18356.21 (KB4496796) to Windows Insiders in the Slow ring who are currently on Build 18356.16. This update will get Insiders who are on Build 18356.16 back into a good state so they can update to Build 18362. We are allowing a few days for this update to roll out before offering Build 18362 – so that means Insiders will still not see Build 18362 offered after updating to Build 18356.21. But stay tuned!
