Preventing Automatic Ejection of Empty Disc Tray

After removing a disc from the tray of my HP laptop and pushing the tray back in, it remains closed for a short time before automatically ejecting itself. This issue only occurs when the tray is empty.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?

I've had it happen to me but only when I was not careful to keep my finger from the button when closing the tray. The tray would close then after reading it pop back open.
