My household has two Windows 10 computers. Home and Pro versions. When I use the Home version, I can NOT take disk image backups because the display that makes it possible is somehow LOST. With the Pro version it works OK.

I have here two screen shots that show you what the problem is. I understand that somehow the Home version "got broken" after my 1 GB backup disk started to malfunction. As you can see, one of the screen captures (PRO) looks OK while the other one is BROKEN, it does not have 'Create a system image' option nor any other options to select.

Thanks, Timo

Hi Timo,

A couple of possible ways to resolve the Blank backup window.

First check the Windows Backup Service is actually running:
  • Press Winkey + R
  • Type services.msc | then click OK (or press Enter)
  • Click on Name column to reverse the alphabetical order then locate Windows Backup
  • Take a look at the Status column (Is it running?) If not do the following:
    • Right click "Windows backup" | select Properties
    • On the General tab click the Drop Arrow next to Startup type | choose Manual
    • Next on the same tab under Service Status click Start
  • Note: You can also select Automatic for your Startup Type if you prefer

Now see whether your Backup and Restore Window is working again. If not do the following:
  • Press Winkey + X | select Command Prompt (Admin)
  • In the Administrator: Command Prompt window that opens type the following command:
regsvr32 sdrsvc
  • Press Enter key to execute the above command
  • Type Exit to close Administrator: Command Prompt window

Return to your backup and Restore window and check its working.

If after attempting both methods it is still not working let us know and we can consider some other options to resolve your issue.

Thanks Regedit32. In order to streamline my PC, I had disabled that service.
