Pinned files on Task Bar

After converting from w7 to w10, the previously pinned EXCEL and WORD files listed on the talk bar (a handy tool I use all the time) cannot be moved from RECENT to PINNED nor can I add any other files to PINNED ..can only delete them. So my PINNED list will eventually disappear .. what is going on ?
