I just bought a 4TB ext HD and I want to partition it with 4 1TB partitions. I have to move files pict's etc from 3 different sources to 3 different partitions then move what I want to keep onto one of the partitions. After all that I will need to dump the unused files and then split the drive into 2 separate HD's ending up with one 3TB & one 1TB. How do I accomplish this. I have partitioned a HD before but that was a long time ago. Haven't had the need to do it since.

On windows 10, search "Disk Partitions" in the search menu. Then click on the top option (also shown below). An administrator access dialogue box should pop up, click "yes". Then find your external HDD in the list. BE CAREFUL AS ANY MISTAKES CAN DESTROY OPERATING SYSTEM PARTITIONS. Once you found the external HDD, right click below the colored bar and select shrink partition / partition. Then you can select the size of the new partition. If the shrink partition / volume option is grayed out, click delete partition / volume (THIS WILL DESTROY ALL DATA ON THAT DISK / PARTITION). Once that is done, the colored bar will be black. Right click again and click new simple partition. Enter the size of your first partition then continue. Right click on the black bar again and repeat the last step until you have 4 1TB partitions.
