Hope someone knows a solution or Microsoft fixes the OS bug:

After I upgraded to Windows 10, none of my hard drives appear in This PC, even the C:\ system drive. Any time I need to navigate to a drive in some application, the drive is not listed in This PC, so I use shortcuts.

However, some applications have the old fashioned navigation tool that does not allow shortcuts, so these are an even bigger pain.

They all have letters assigned and can be accessed via those letters via DOS commands. There is a working photographs storage drive, a long term data storage drive, many removable Flash and USB sockets and a large system backup RAID array drive, For example:

None of the above drive letters can be made to appear in This PC, though all may be navigated to in Explorer windows, if you explicitly type in the drive, e.g.: E:\

However when I plug in an iPhone or Android, the Devices and drives category appears and the phone is listed. Not that Explorer access to iPhone is worth anything, as iPhone users (victims) know :)

Help! How long can a bug like this go unnoticed by Microsoft?

Try this. Open file explorer. Hit the View tab. Over on the right side hit options and then hit Change folder and search options. Set the ' Open File Explore to' box to This PC Hit apply and OK.

Have you tried running the Hardware and Device Troubleshooter in the Control Panel?
IF you look in disk management, do the drives have drive letters assigned? Are there any conflicting drive letter assignments? Have you considered starting with only the System Drive attached to see if that resolves the issue and then methodically reconnect one drive at a time to see if one particular drive is causing the issue?

Check your registry here
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Look in the right (data) pane for a 32 bit Dword that says "NoDrives" IF it is there delete it.
I believe there may also be a similar user specific setting at the same location in HKEY_CURRENT_USER
You might also want to check there.

Try to check for the status of the drive in the device manager.
1. Press Windows Key + R Key.
2. Then type “devmgmt.msc” without the quotes and hit on Enter Key.
3. Expand Disk Drive. If you are able to find the driver for the external drive.
6. Then again right click on the driver and click on Properties.
7. Check the device status of the disk.

Thanks all!! As it turns out, HKEY_CURRENT_USER's registry Explorer Policy key had a NoDrives in it. Deleting that allowed Devices and drives to appear after reboot. The Long Night is over. I am still a little puzzled that my phone would make the category appear, but that is not a burning issue at this point.

I owe everyone help with your Iridium satphone if you have one, especially Trouble. BTW trimful, my RAID array had a "Device USBSTOR\Disk&Ven_JMicron&Prod_H/W_RAID1&Rev_\D088FFFFFFFF&0 could not be migrated." event that may be related.
