Native video files just showing green screens

Whenever I try to play a video file, mp4, MOV, whatever, the video player just turns green. I can still hear the audio. I had this problem on websites, too, and to fix that I turned off hardware acceleration in the Chrome settings. However, my native video files still are just showing a green screen with audio. How can I fix this? I cleared out some junk on my computer to free up space, restarted my laptop several times. Not sure what else to do.
