moving e-mails

When I try to move an e-mail from my inbox to a folder it goes to the 1st folder on the list it doesn't let me chose

I only have a Gmail account for specific purpose - I am not a regular user. But I have just had a look through the settings and cannot see any reason for your problem. Maybe a regular user can pop in this thread and help more.
Only thing I can possibly see is an error in your sign in?

Ok. I read that link. Quite a bit of confusion among the answers!
For the hell of it, I just sent myself three emails from Outlook to Gmail.

In Gmail I was able to drag and drop from the inbox to any other folder I chose. It then went from the inbox without problems??
