My laptop had window 7 installed when I bought it, automatically installed window 10 approx 12 months ago.
It has always had microsoft words on it till just recently, now it has disappeared.

When I left clicked on start it was in the most used icons section.

Now it has disappeared and been somehow replaced with note pad. Which does not have the same features as word.

Also the words template I have been using for years now has gone like this in notepad!.

Try the document in Wordpad [in Start, W, Windows Accessories], it's a 'lite' version of Word and just may work on your file. Notepad is only a text editor, doesn't have most of the features of a word processor like Word or Wordpad and is best used by software programmers and basic HTML coding of Web pages. If you open a document in the wrong program and it doesn't look right be sure to not save it when closing.

Thought I'd add, if you can't resurrect Microsoft Office/Microsoft Word and don't want to buy it, try the free LibreOffice from www.libreoffice.org. Only thing it doesn't have is an E-Mail client like Microsoft Outlook.

The word file association may have changed. Right click on a word document, select properties > On the General tab near the top you will see "Type of File, opens with" It should show Microsoft Word, if not, click change and select "Microsoft Word"

It has always had microsoft words on it till just recently, now it has disappeared.
You could search your computer, all drives, all partitions for
winword.exe
See if it turns up anywhere

My 2012 Dell desktop came with Windows 7 (Dell also sold W8 computers in 2012; I didn't want W8) & Microsoft Office Starter 2010 (includes Word, Excel, etc.; Dell dot com installed Office Starter for FREE). Office Starter survived the W7-W10 free upgrade and all the subsequent W10 updates (I've never uninstalled or reinstalled Office Starter). Currently have W10 Home v1703 b15063.608; checked WORD & EXCEL today and they both work.
