I have recently heard from 3 people who have suddenly lost their Wi-fi connection. The router is picked up but no internet access. An Ethernet cable works fine. The 3rd person took laptop to a computer shop and was told this was a known problem and fixed it in 20 mins. The only change on all the laptops were Windows Updates. Can anyone confirm this ‘known bug’ and offer any advice please ?

Some possibilities.
Bad DHCP from the router check with ipconfig and show us the answers. Bad DNS addresses can do this. Don't see why this should happen in Wifi and not in Ethernet.
Network in Public mode rather than Private.
Firewall wrong? Temporarily turn off the firewall.
Adapter set to "allow the computer to turn off this adapter to save power".

Can you ping a known web site?

Run the network troubleshooter.

Dmp192,

I have a laptop and when the WiFi won't connect, I simply switch it off and back on again and it connects, not a technical solution but it works!.

That said, since the 2017 Fall Update, I haven't had a problem with it!. :)
