Do you have an Ethernet (wired) option to connect to the internet and run Windows Updates and see if that fixes anything?
Do you know which wireless adapter you have installed, it's possible you may need either a driver update or a driver downgrade.
The best bet, in the case of laptops and even most OEM desktops is to check with the actual PC Manufacturer's website and install the drivers associated with your particular computer and its' specific hardware devices.
Is Device Manager reporting any problem with the adapter or any other installed hardware?
