I do not want to use Edge and have Internet Explorer on my computer - pinned to the taskbar - however Edge keeps taking over whenever I try to open attachments or links in my Outlook email - I have tried several different methods to make Explorer my default but it does not show anywhere as an alternative - even though it Is on my computer - I'm not a techie but have tried several solutions offered on sites - usually to change the default - but pretty difficult when it doesn't even show as an option.... can anyone help?

Setting IE as your default browser should be easy enough..... go here
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs\
Select Internet Explorer in the left column, click Set the program as default, click OK

Afterwards you may still have some issues with email hyperlinks depending on what you are calling "Outlook".

OK, maybe try this....
Open the programs and features applet in the Control Panel, in the left column click "Turn Windows features on or off"
Locate Internet Explorer
IF it is checked uncheck it and click OK, reboot and then go back in and check it OK again, reboot again, see if that breaks anything loose.
IF it is unchecked then of course check it and reboot.
Not sure why it wouldn't be showing in the list as pictured above.

Failing the above you might try this
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs
Select the bottom link "Set program access and computer defaults"
Select and expand "Custom"
Make sure that the box that says "Enable access to this program" is checked immediately across from Internet Explorer as pictured

Did all that still didn't work - had to research for program in program files so I could repin it to taskbar - very frustrating...still doesn't show as an option when I try to make it default.

Muriel Your having a tough time.
Try this method I used it to switch from default browser Edge to Firefox.
Left click Start > Settings > Default Apps and scroll down to see the default browser, click on the app an change it to show IE as the default browser.

Last fix worked - I think - managed to open an email attachment okay. Many many thanks - you're my hero.

OK.... glad to hear it.
We just keep throwing stuff against the wall and hoping that something sticks sooner or later.
Glad you were able to resolve it and thanks for the feedback.
Much appreciated
Regards
Randy
