SOLVED How to remove shadows under the Icon Text on Desktop. It makes them illegible.

I guess I should have come here first but I searched the internet on how to fix this aggravation. It seems the accepted way is to go into the Control Panel, System, Advanced System Settings and uncheck the box for Use drop shadows for Icon labels on the Desktop. Been there, did that, rebooted, and absolutely nothing changed. I went back to the same place and turned off the other two references to shadows, rebooted, and again, no effect anywhere that I could see.

Can you give me any other guesses as to what might work?

I have no idea why making a double image of text would seem like a good idea. All it does for me is make it damn near impossible to read.

Have you tried rebuilding the icon and thumbnail cache to see if that helps with the issue?
