If you'd like to change the default application for file types and protocols, there's a really simply way to manage your choices. Simply load the control panel by pressing Windows Key + X and clicking Control Panel or find it from the start menu.

Then, click Programs:


Now click Set your Default Programs:


Then find the application you would like to make default for your chosen...

It does not work when you make Internet Explorer your default browser. Every link I click in an email, I get a message box that asks which program to use. When I select Internet explorer and check the box to make it the default. It doesn't remain the default.

Did you follow through Ian's tutorial to make IE your permanent default?
