How can I prevent the mouse pointer from disappearing when the mouse disconnected?

I have a laptop with a non-functioning touchpad, so I rely on a mouse. However, since the laptop has only one USB port, I need to disconnect the mouse when connecting a USB memory device. As a workaround, I plan to move the mouse pointer using the keyboard numpad. However, the pointer disappears when the mouse is disconnected, making it impossible to move with the keyboard. Is there a way to keep the pointer visible so that I can control it with my keyboard?

If your laptop supports Bluetooth you can get a mouse with Bluetooth connectivity. Alternatively you can search for the keyboard shortcuts that allow you to navigate file explorer.
