Open
C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking and delete the file "idstore.sst " and reboot your computer With successive updates, the file gets corrupted.

You may find, when going to the path indicated, that it is locked. If so you need to take ownership.

Should it happen, post back.

or:

You can, if you wish, run this reg. It will give you an option if you right click any restricted folders (Take ownership) Whicj will allow you access.

Hi thanks for that..
.. deleted idstore.sst but still cant create homegroup..

..although instead of denying access after "create a homegroup"
I now get a page where
it askes me for the homegroup password.
.the only password I have is the one displayed on the other adjacent pc (pc2) where I was able to create a homegroup although the only files and folders that can be seen on pc2 homegroup are from pc2.
So I added the password obtained from pc2 and then get..
Homegroup - Windows can't set up a homegroup on this computer
thanks

Have a look at the link in Post #4 and make sure the services are set as instructed.

If that doesn't work, I would suggest you start from scratch and set up a new home group on both computers.
One point. Reading through the thread. You have, already, created a homegroup on PC2?
In that case, first check that you have given permissions in that homegroup.
Work through these settings

Capture.PNG

Delete the references (cancel) the homegroup on PC1.
Reboot PC1 and select the homegroup again, either in settings or in the Control Panel.

You should, now, be asked if you wish to join the homegroup which you have already created. Agree. It will ask for the password for that homegroup and then you should be in.

Hi,
I may have to go lie down in darkened room!

....carried out all suggestions/recommendations for which tvm
but no go still it will not have it.

One thing I did find, unsure if its important, but when attending to:-

In the Search bar type services.msc and search the list for peer network grouping, peer network identity manager, homegroup listener and homegroup provider.

I don't seem to have homegroup listener on pc1

I am running out of ideas.

Another thought. Are you, by chance, running any third party antivirus or firewalls? If so, try disabling them and check the homegroup status again.
It is also necessary to have the ip6 protocol running. You might check this:

Click the Windows key + X , and then click Network Connections.
Right-click the network adapter you are useing to connect to the internet and then select Properties.
Make sure to check the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) option.

Then, finally, click OK.
