sounds like the HD ID - by OEM serial which program did you use to get the error. I found your post on HP.
so honestly, run chkdsk c:\ and say yes when ask then reboot so that MS can do a full scan and repair if possible.
you also migh have to run "hard Disk Low Level format" might take a while, but it does set it back to manufacture default (RAW)
then you have to FORMAT to use...
