I am using the iglooftppro version 3.9 it works well on windows xpHi Jorn,
what client are you using?.
Some options available here:

I am using the iglooftppro version 3.9 it works well on windows xp
Try Filezilla. https://filezilla-project.org/
Download for windows executables/installers @ https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?show_all=1
Or alternatively Cyberduck https://cyberduck.io/ Dont use the Get it on Windows 10 button. Use the top button that read Download Cyberduck for Windows.
Both free and in free beer and quite distinct and powerful software options that work well with Windows 10.
Edit: That looks like its dead and no longer in development, probably explains your problem.
so now i am trying the ftp manager lite from windows store. It seems to work a little better
Could it be the remote FTP site that is the problem? Try toggling the active/passive/auto FTP connection option too.
Try connecting to ftp://speedtest.tele2.net/ in your FTP client and download some of the test files. You can also upload to the /upload directory and use that as a test.
I'm another FileZilla user .
I Zeroed the computer (with all software removed) and it solved the problem.First, you run network troubleshooter.
Then you should update your network adaptor drivers and check.
- Press Windows key + R key.
- Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
- In device manager go to Network adaptor.
- Right click and click on Update drive software.
