File explorer not showing up on desktop. what to do?

I was trying to clean up my computer files to free up space for installing a new game but it said I didn't have enough storage. That's fine, I just need to see which drives to clean up. However, when I try to open File explorer, it doesn't appear on my desktop. It shows as open in the taskbar and Task Manager, but nothing appears on the screen. I also can't access any folders on my desktop or open any of my files. Does anyone know how to fix this or what the issue might be?
