External drive

My external drive, originally used with a windows 7, is no longer seen. The external drive makes noise and it lights up but I can't see it anywhere. I've tried my laptop and all my computers, including the original windows 7 pc. HEEELLLPPPP!!!

Other troubleshooting tried includes changing ports and cables, nothing.

Have you looked in the Disk manager if it appears? It most likely does not have a drive letter assigned to it, however, since its making noise (what kind of noise?) it may on the brink of failing in a big way...

its sound like a winding sound, not necessarily a beep but like a booting up sound. How can I assign a letter to it?

then assign the drive letter you like...
