Desktop stops responding all the time when on it

About 3 months ago I installed an SSD onto my computer that I run my boot from. Ever since, whenever I'm on my desktop occasionally it will just freeze and I can't click on anything or do anything literally until it starts responding again which takes 1-2 minutes typically. I usually test know it stopped responding because I'll be on Chrome doing something and all the sudden everything will stop working and I'll minimize my tab and click and drag on my desktop and if no blue square appears then I'll get a greyed desktop, loading wheel, or a message in the top left of my screen indicating that Microsoft Windows has stopped responding. I won't be able to do anything until it starts responding again. . . which is really annoying because it happens basically every five-ten minutes when I'm using my desktop. Now what's interesting is that everything works just fine only when I play games like on steam and it never freezes at all unless I'm on my desktop using some application or chrome mostly. I haven't the slightest clue as to what causes this and what I can do to fix it and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and been able to fix it. If so, that'd be great if you could help me! Thanks!

My first suggestion would be to experiment with a new user. Make it a member of the local administrators group and test to see if the computer does the same thing.

Go to
C:\Windows\System32
Find
Cmd.exe
Right click it and choose run as administrator
At the admin command prompt type
net user JohnSmith /add
hit enter
then type
net localgroup administrators JohnSmith /add
hit enter
type
exit
hit enter
Restart and log in as JohnSmith

Obviously it doesn't have to be "JohnSmith". Any Tom, Dick or Sally should work fine (dealers choice).
