Desktop icons moving

sometimes, when I start up, the desktop icons are scattered across the screen

I missed this the other day so belatedly will offer that many things can affect what shows on the screen/display panel. It must be kept in mind that the display of icons is Dynamic, not Static like a picture on the wall. As such it is always refreshing/redrawing, sometimes visibly sometimes not, things running or being held in memory can affect the display. I've not used them but there are programs available [Internet search] that can be used to maintain a certain desired arrangement.
