SOLVED Cursor/Highlighting/Delete functions stop working on Word Pad

About every fourth time I use "Word Pad" the subject occurs. If the mouse is used text can be highlighted and cut. Any ideas?

By "Word Pad" do you mean the built-in WordPad application/program in Windows accessories. Or do you mean the Touchpad on a Notebook or maybe something with a Tablet?

Yes, the Windows 10 standard for a "lap top"; occasionally the cursor will move using keypad buttons but at a rate of about one second per character; shutting WordPad down hasn't worked; it seems the computer has to be shut down and re started.

If WordPad application has a problem you might look in Settings, Apps, Default Apps and Reset them.

There is no hint of anything like WordPad under Apps.
